Artists whom inspire me: Rien Poortvliet

It's been a while since I shared artists whom inspire me so it's time for another one.
Rien Poortvliet (1932-1995) was a well known Dutch painter (I consider him a great illustrator) who specialized in nature and wildlife scenes but he got world renown for his books about David the Gnome. I've always loved his narrative work about country life and animals of course, and though he was/is loved by the general public he is considered controversial in the art world because of his muddy technique of painting, his 'sentimental' subjects and what they call 'vaguely artistic style' (not finishing his scenes and let things open to the imagination).
I think he's a great draughtsman and admire him for his love for his subjects.
